My love and passion for photography began very early on. Even though I currently think and work much more in moving images, I also enjoy shooting stills from time to time. While travelling through the USA, I had the idea of combining both worlds and their advantages. The wide format, which is familiar from big Hollywood productions, flatters some scenes so much that they could have been a stolen frame grab from a blockbuster. My format of ‘never shot film scenes’ was born. Since then, I have been trying to use this wide format when travelling and on everyday photo missions. I am almost obsessed with the wide images and their expressiveness. It seems to me that it gives the images a new context and a different meaning.
The monumental buildings, squares and cities in China create almost surrealistic images in front of the camera. For us Europeans, this means entering new worlds, not only culturally but also visually. The prevailing smog in the big cities immerses the scenery in a special light and a special atmosphere. As I have already been there several times and knew what to expect, I was able to deliberately look out for exciting locations and scenery, and China is always good for surprises.
